- Understand what concentration is: “Concentration is taking your mind off many things and putting it on one thing at a time.” Often what distracts us are day-to-day misunderstandings and negative feelings. Here is a guided meditation to release negative feelings.
- Decide what you want to concentrate on. In many ways, you become what you focus on — that is, you take on some of its characteristics. Have you ever noticed how couples who have been married for many years start to look like each other, or how people often come to resemble their pets, their cars, their hobbies, or their work projects?
- Watch other people concentrating. Go see a good action movie. In the middle of it, look around at the people in the theater. What are they doing? They are absolutely still, eyes barely blinking, and their breath is slower. It would take a really major distraction to break their attention stream. These physical signs may give you a hint about ways to increase your own concentration abilities. Here’s a visualization to improve your concentration.
- Avoid constant sensory input.Multi-tasking (trying to do more than one thing at a time), loud noises, and visual stimulation (such as from a T.V.) make concentration much more difficult, and being around them or doing them too much can put you into a habit of non-attention which can be hard to break.
- Make it a point to put your full concentration on whatever you are doing. Don’t let anything distract you. It really helps to be in a quiet place, but you can learn to block out noise if necessary.
- Learn to meditate. Meditation is the most powerful of all concentration enhancement techniques. Learn a few simple meditation techniques and practice them at least five minutes daily.
- Learn techniques to increase and control your energy. One such technique is Paramhansa Yogananda’s Energization Exercises. Controlling your energy is an important first step toward the ability to concentrate deeply.
- Take breaks. Go outside and breathe deeply or take a brisk walk. Make yourself do this often and you’ll be able to return to your task recharged and ready to focus more creatively. This Nature and Me exercise from Sharing Nature Worldwide will help you go deep into nature quickly and return you refreshed and uplifted.
- Stay calm. Deep concentration is a matter of increasing or directing your life-force or conscious, cosmic energy. The more of this kind of energy you have, the better. Scattered energy doesn’t help. It must be calm, focused energy. Learn to be calmly concentrated and be concentratedly calm.
- While meditating, watch your breath — don’t control it in any way, just observe. This teaches you to focus your mind on one thing at a time. As you observe your breath, it will slow down, along with your mind (this is scientifically well-documented), and you move into a dynamic, peaceful (but not sleepy) state of being. Guided meditation to Become Present with Your Breath. Your mind will become recharged and creatively receptive. Want More?

How to increase your concentration
Which subject to take after class 10
After your class 10 board exams, you stand at the first 'crossroads'. What will you do next? Will you take the road leading to less stress, less study, easy study or travel an extra mile like many?
For the first time in your life, you'll have to face a question that might haunt you all your life, "What are you going to do after this"? This question will pop-up from time to time, whenever you reach an important milestone in your life. Many students find this question very frustrating and intimidating if they are not clear about their career ambitions or how to reach it.
reach it.

With the end of school life, begins a life where you have to start taking some important decisions. It is important to have a clear career plan for a smooth passage from your school life to a happy professional life. If you don't have an in-depth knowledge of the choices that you have ahead of you, you might end-up in a career that is not made for you. It is common among students going through this transition phase to get influenced by misinformation and end up making wrong decisions.

Decision making is a major sought after skill
An individual's decision making is the most sought after skill in each and every career; no matter which job you do, your success will be based on the reasoning applied behind the decisions you take. This skill is spurred in a student from time to time and it starts right after you finish your 10th grade. Before 10th, the only choice you made was selecting your second language. After 10th, the story changes-- for the first time, you have the steering wheel of your career.
For most of the students, this phase appears like a complex maze with lots of doors leading to different directions, and it becomes difficult to find the door that leads towards the student's dream career. Let us try to look at this maze from above, so that we can connect the doors that will lead you towards your dream.

Why is the choice important?
Many parents ask this question and feel that this is not a very important choice of life and can be taken again after grade 12th. On the contrary, this maybe the first major decision for a student and also one which gives your career a direction. It's always better to start early.
Every student has a unique set of skills, strengths and weaknesses and hence it's very important to take unique decision for every student.
